Virtual Learning TransfersElementary families have until 4 p.m. this Friday to transfer their child from in-person learning to Virtual Elementary School (VES). Option B would make the Friday before March Break 2022 a holiday, and include two PA Days for staff before classes begin. Secondary students returning to in-person learning may be limited to the new term or new semester based on course availability, enrolment, and time missed in the course. We will also be using text message alerts to notify families about confirmed cases of COVID in their schools. This includes wearing masks correctly, washing hands frequently, limiting social contacts to the immediate family, physically distancing from others, self-screening daily at https://covid-19.ontario.ca/school-screening/, staying home if ill, and downloading the free COVID Alert app from https://www.canada.ca/en/public-health/services/diseases/coronavirus-disease-covid-19/covid-alert.html. We also remind all families and staff of the importance of daily self-screening, using the new screening tool attached. This will allow teachers to finish student assessments before students transfer to the VES. The first set asks about symptoms such as fever, cough and shortness of breath. Clinics will be held evenings or weekends on a rotating basis, and secondary schools will often serve as the location for these clinics, with students and families from associated elementary feeder schools invited to attend. If only some buses are cancelled or delayed, schools will remain open. Synchronous learning refers to real-time teaching when the students and teacher are connected live online. In particular, we received new details regarding the Ministry’s planning for online, at-home learning. When not online, your child will be assigned work to complete independently. Masks are now mandatory for Grades 1 through 12 students, and highly recommended for Kindergarten students. As announced by the province, March Break is postponed to April 12-16. The additional stresses of living in a COVID-19 world make it easy to forget about all the positive things our students and staff have been accomplishing during a trying year.
